The Art of Prayer
Your life is waiting to be understood, and to be lived. In your search for life have you ever stopped to pray , to try and make sense of everything? In your search for life, you are searching for meaning. Maybe you have done this without really realising it? Maybe you were desperate, unhappy or lonely? Maybe you experienced a moment of great beauty or an inner sense of something more than yourself? Prayer is all of this and an inner resource from which each of us can gain great benefit. Prayer is the process of searching and an inner resource that enables you to recharge, renew and refresh any fatigue or world- weariness. Whatever you feel, wherever you are, whatever you are doing or what is being done to you, prayer is already there within you, communicating in a way that you will understand. Prayer is the inner dialogue of that part of your humanity, which is beyond the everyday mind yet is intertwined in every part of our daily lives. Prayer is the voice of your observing self.
If you learn the skills of the art of prayer, you become aware and involved with this dialogue. So what is prayer? Prayer is communication with your inner self. Prayer is the craft and the act of inspired listening to your inner self and an act of healing. You do not need to believe in a god or even a higher force to benefit from the qualities of prayer. Prayer cultivates self-belief, creativity, acceptance and self-compassion, and for some of my clients it has acted as a resource enabling them to explore later on the challenges in their lives through a therapeutic approach or in other ways.
You can use prayer to enable change in your life using the profoundest parts of yourself. Life can be shockingly violent, cruel, full of unhappiness and suffering. The fact is that there is no one life to be lived, but many lives all intertwined, lives of ease and hardship and lives of fame and infamy, of wealth and poverty and lives of the ordinary and the unknown. All of these are connected, reflections of the same impulse of human consciousness. The art of prayer creates a stronger adaptable resilience. Life is not just a series of events but also a series of beliefs and how you respond to the beliefs you hold. This is held in place by your thoughts, feelings, language and behaviours. They are real within a slim dimension of the material, psychological world, and all of us are influenced by each and every action and thought of the other. Prayer can act as a means to make sense of these things beyond words or analysis, it nurtures our human nature, strengthens what needs to be made stronger and heals that which needs healing. Prayer is a natural communication with your inner self and multiple layers of the world. Prayer dwells within you. In order to learn this approach to improving the quality of your life, stop and listen to the self within that is already in prayer.
Each of us is a prayer, for when we pray, whatever that prayer may be, we pray for everyone. That is the bewitching mystery, we are the prayer and the praying too.
Prayer can be used to help create inner balance and a sense of well-being and to gain inner strength. It increases the ability to solve problems and find solutions, it encourages forgiveness and the development of tolerance. I teach people the art of prayer in order that people apply this skill to enhance the quality of their lives. Whatever the challenges are that you may face , by learning to pray , you will discover your own ways to be happier and content. Whatever you want to change or develop in yourself, prayer is a good place to start. Go to 'Consult with Christopher' to find out more.
