Christopher Hansard:[Still of the Night]
Have you in the still of night
heard the roaring of the divine?
have you heard the soft growling
of wisdom on the prowl ?
have you felt your ego tremble
or your mind become afraid?
for all our sufferings are based upon
the mind which does not exist
and our habits which
are merely
furnishings for fear
have you felt the falcon of light
dive in the darkest night
with outstretched talons to rip and tear
at the fragile life
that we all so fondly hold?
the times of life and death are brief
and are paths for our psyche
to shake off the lessons that are learnt
and thus to be reformed
have you in the still of night
stopped to listen
to the voice of love that
calls your name
in silence?
It speaks in grace and of grace too
it offers up a subtle freedom
for if you wish liberation
you need to give it up
in the silence of the night
you can hear the turning of the earth
and the mystery in the making
is the womb of your rebirth
